Delphiade of Arts - Games between the Games
What is the 'Delphiade of Arts'?
The Delphiade of Arts brings the concept of the Delphic Games to schools and youth culture.
It is designed as a whole year competition alongside the normal school time.
The Delphiade of Arts includes professional-led workshops, presentation of the works by the participants and public events.
The schools and the regional school administrations respectively carry the responsability for this project, for which the motto is redefined every year.
It is conceivable that this project could develop into a national level competition and finally even onto an european level taking the international Youth Delphic Games as a model.
The Delphiade pursues several goals. It helps to encourage young people in
their cultural and artistic education and enhances their interest in current issues in society. Young people will have personal access to art, culture and society and will also be given space to express themselves and be open in creative debates. They will benefit from exchanges with other young people, from the experience and
professional advice of skilled experts. The Delphiade of Arts will give teacher new impetus for their teaching. They will also be introduced to the development of adolescent expression and
communication. The Delphiade strengthens the identification of students with their school, whilst providing the opportunity to demonstrate their potential and present themselves in public.
The Pilot Project - Delphiade of Arts 2009/2010
At the International Delphic Council (IDC) a project was founded for the implementation of the 1st Delphiade of Arts. Co-operation partners for this pilot project include the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Heinrich Böll- and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
The 2009/10 Delphiade of Arts began with the symposium entitled ''60 Years of Basic Law - 20 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall'' on 19th May 2009, which took place at the Academy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
During professional workshops and lectures, teachers and workshop leaders were trained to develop ideas for their class, to devise accurate perspectives for practical work and to see opportunities for educational and artistic debates.
Learning about Basic Law and the German unification process are an important part of the school curriculum. However, for many young people these issues continue to be far from their everyday lives.
For this reason, Delphiade of Arts 2009/10 seeks to promote youth interest in recent German history.
By developing their own artistic expression, and through exchange and competition with others, pupils should develop a deeper understanding of democracy and enhance their social and communication skills.
Active discussion of such issues also helps young people to forge personal relationships.
